Dave's Birthday
We spent Dave's birthday at our friend's (Chris and Leanne) house. We sadly forgot to bring the camera, but we all celebrated over a delicious Korean meal followed by chocolate cake.
Jamie's Birthday
Dave baked Jamie a delicious cake for her birthday. Matt and Rachel provided a crazy Chinese candle that completely surprised Jamie with it's noise and vigor when lit. She was completely caught off-guard (as is evident from the look on her face in the photos).

In late January we hiked at Silver Falls. It was Dave's first time doing the hike and we had a beautiful day. The falls were full of water this time of year!

Post-hike chili dinner
After the hike at Silver Falls, we convened at the Petts/Stalter residence for a chili dinner, lots of shooting of nerf guns, passing around the table of Clara, and complete with two dogs running and playing. Good times!

Back in Oregon, Jamie and some girlfriends went on an eight mile hike at the beautiful Silver Falls State Park. There are 10 waterfalls!

Driving back to Oregon
Our 27 hour drive back to Oregon was long, but uneventful. Here are a few photos documenting the hours.

Grandma Loretta
Jamie's Grandma Loretta flew in from Colorado over the New Year and we got to spend a couple days with her before heading back to Oregon.

Christmas Eve
We enjoyed Christmas eve playing with our nieces and nephews at the Hanser household, followed by the Christmas Eve church service and the exchange of a couple gifts next to the warm fire.

A day in the life of the Nelson's
The cold Iowa weather also kept us indoors, cuddled up next to the fire and busily putting together puzzles. I think the final count was three!

Iowa - Brown's Woods
We had a reality check heading back to Iowa for the holidays. We were greeted by lots of snow and much colder temperatures than we were used to. However, that didn't stop us from getting out and being active. We bundled up and went with Jamie's mom and sister on a hike in Brown's Woods. It was was fun tromping through the glistening snow.

Beazell
On a beautiful December day, we went on a hike at Beazell with Rachel and basked in the glorious sunshine and beauty surrounding us. We took a break at the top of the hill and did some yoga to celebrate the wonderfulness of it all!

Thanksgiving
While we neglected to take any photos of our actual Thanksgiving dinner festivities (full of good friends and good food), we did manage to take a few photos of our hike at Beazell County Park the following day. I think we have started a new tradition, as this is the second year we have done a long hike on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's a good way to work off all those calories from the day before!

Random things
Here are a few random things from our house: 1) Indie sleeping on Dave's backpack and getting caught...so he had to strap her down! 2) The last of our roses from the front yard. 3) An enormous spider taking up residence right outside our window - eww!

The animals of the house
Indie and Chike have a thing with sitting on people -- in odd positions! What are we going to do with them?

Redwood Forest
One weekend in October we drove down to the Redwood National Forest in Northern California. Our first night we only drove part of the way so that we could really enjoy the beauty of southern Oregon. We spent the night along the Rogue River in a yurt. The next day we enjoyed a fun tour of the Oregon caves as we headed south. We then camped on the coast in the shadows of the Redwoods for the next two nights with our friends Susanna and Elizabeth. We took an eight mile hike on a trail through the Redwoods that finished by walking us through a fern gully before dumping us out on the sunny beach, where we ran into a huge elk! On our drive home, we stopped at a fun pull-off and enjoyed a picnic lunch between two rocks on a deserted Oregon beach. It was a fantastic trip!

Fall Fun
We truly apologize for being such terrible bloggers - how easily time slips away!
Jamie has added a line to her "to-do" list to update the blog...the goal is to post one new photo album a night until we're caught up.
First on the list: fall fun at the farm. These photos were taken at our CSA farm the weekend after Jamie returned from Ethiopia.
